The Ministry of Health and Medical Services is set to enhance medical imaging capabilities at Savusavu Hospital with the installation of a new X-ray machine, expected to arrive in June. This development comes on the heels of recent concerns from patients regarding the non-functional X-ray machine in the hospital’s Radiology Unit, which has been out of service for the past two months.

In response to this issue, the ministry has indicated that its biomedical team is actively working on a software replacement. Additionally, plans are in place for a short-term solution involving the deployment of a Portable Digital X-ray machine to address the immediate service needs of patients.

Until the new machine arrives, patients in need of X-ray services are being referred to Labasa Hospital or private providers in the Savusavu area. Meanwhile, ultrasound tests continue to be available at the hospital’s radiology unit.

The hospital is also facing challenges with its Haematology Analyzer, which is currently non-functional. The ministry is working on acquiring a replacement for this machine as well. In the interim, specimens needing haematological testing are sent to Labasa and local private facilities, while basic blood tests continue to be conducted at the laboratory unit.

The ministry encourages the public to seek medical attention at the hospital as it strives to restore full radiology and laboratory services at Savusavu Hospital. This commitment reflects a dedication to improving healthcare access for the community, ensuring that patients receive the necessary diagnostics and treatments in a timely manner.

In summary, while Savusavu Hospital faces temporary equipment challenges, the proactive steps being taken by the Ministry of Health signal a positive trajectory towards restoring and enhancing healthcare services in the region. The community can look forward to improved medical facilities in the near future.
