The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has announced plans to install a new X-ray machine at Savusavu Hospital, coinciding with the arrival of new equipment purchased by the ministry in June. This decision comes after feedback from patients who raised concerns about the hospital’s Radiology Unit, where the existing X-ray machine has been out of operation for the past two months.
In a recent statement, the ministry outlined its plans, indicating that a biomedical team is currently working on a software replacement for the malfunctioning X-ray machine. Additionally, to address immediate needs, a Portable Digital X-ray machine will be temporarily deployed to assist in providing necessary services during this interim period.
For patients requiring X-ray examinations, alternatives have been arranged, with referrals being made to Labasa Hospital and nearby private providers when necessary. Meanwhile, ultrasound services at the hospital will continue as usual.
Moreover, the Laboratory Unit at Savusavu Hospital is also facing challenges, as its Haematology Analyzer is currently out of service. The ministry is taking steps to replace this older equipment, ensuring that specimens for hematological testing are sent to Labasa and local private providers when needed. Basic testing, such as biochemistry and serology, will still be conducted at the laboratory unit.
The Ministry encourages the public to seek medical care at the hospital as they work diligently to restore full radiology and laboratory services. This proactive approach demonstrates the ministry’s commitment to improving healthcare access and ensuring that the community’s medical needs are met effectively.
This situation highlights the ministry’s responsiveness to public concerns and its ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare facilities, signifying a promising future for health services in the area.
