The Ministry of Health and Medical Services is set to enhance the medical capabilities of Savusavu Hospital with the installation of a new X-ray machine scheduled for June. This decision comes in response to patient concerns about the existing X-ray machine in the hospital’s Radiology Unit, which has been out of order for the past two months.

In an official statement, the ministry acknowledged the problem and indicated that the biomedical team is currently working on replacing the software. In the meantime, they are deploying a Portable Digital X-ray machine to address immediate service needs.

Currently, patients requiring X-ray services are referred to Labasa Hospital or private providers in Savusavu. However, ultrasound tests continue to be performed at the hospital’s Radiology Unit.

In addition to the X-ray machine issues, the Haematology Analyzer in the Laboratory Unit of Savusavu Hospital is also non-functional. The ministry is actively working to replace this outdated equipment, with specimens for haematological testing currently being sent to Labasa and local private providers. Other essential tests, such as basic biochemistry, blood crossmatching, and serology testing, are still being conducted at the hospital’s laboratory unit.

The ministry encourages the community to seek medical attention at the hospital as they work diligently to restore full radiology and laboratory services. This commitment reflects the ministry’s dedication to improving healthcare availability and quality for the residents of Savusavu.

In summary, the upcoming installation of a new X-ray machine, alongside the ministry’s proactive measures to maintain essential services, showcases a hopeful future for improved healthcare in the local community. Encouragingly, these actions demonstrate a focused effort to address current challenges and enhance overall medical service delivery.
