The Savusavu Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with local businesses, is advocating for enhanced supervision and enforcement in Savusavu Town as the Christmas festive season approaches. Chamber President Avikash Pillay emphasizes that the holiday period brings an increase in traffic, shopper activity, and extended business hours, necessitating improved coordination between the Savusavu Town Council and the Fiji Police Force.

Pillay highlights that strengthened enforcement measures are crucial for managing traffic flow, parking, and public safety, ultimately creating a safer environment for pedestrians, drivers, visitors, and those operating businesses. Past incidents of crime in Savusavu Town have raised concerns, particularly the presence of inebriated individuals, some found unconscious in public spaces, which has led to discomfort among shoppers.

The Chamber of Commerce believes that a more robust police presence can deter such negative behaviours and foster a welcoming atmosphere for visitors during the holidays. In preparation for the festive season, the Fiji Police Force has been conducting night patrols and setting up checkpoints throughout Labasa Town and along the highway to Savusavu.

Authorities are encouraging the community to act responsibly, cooperate with law enforcement, and report any suspicious or disruptive activities. The message is clear: public safety is a collaborative effort, and the goal is to ensure a safe and enjoyable festive season for residents and visitors alike in the Northern region.
