A recent four-day festival held in Savusavu successfully raised $48,000, dedicated to youth development initiatives. The Cakaudrove Multi-Ethnic Youth and Sports Festival was collaboratively organized by the Cakaudrove Youth Council and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Aubrey Whippy, the committee coordinator for the festival, announced that the 14 queen contestants collectively raised $30,716.15 during the event. He expressed gratitude to Jese Saukuru, the Minister for Youth and Sports, along with the divisional North manager, Walter Matalau, for their vital support in facilitating this inaugural carnival.

The highlight of the festival was the crowning of Miss Vaturova, Temalesi Tuiwalese, as Miss Cakaudrove Youth at Narain Park last Friday. When inquired about the allocation of the funds, Mr. Whippy mentioned that discussions are planned to determine how best to distribute resources for investments, local development projects, and operational expenses.

Looking ahead, the organizers envision an even greater event next year, with aspirations to have representation from all 15 districts as well as increased participation from diverse ethnic communities, including Indo-Fijian, Rabi, and Kioa. Whippy also took the time to appreciate the sponsors and contributors who played a key role in the festival’s success.

Rosi Toroca from Koroalau was recognized as Miss Charity, having raised $7,612 during the festivities.

This event not only highlighted the spirit of community and unity among the youths but also set a foundation for future initiatives aimed at enhancing development and opportunities for young individuals in the region. The commitment to growth and inclusion is a hopeful sign for the future of youth engagement and empowerment in Cakaudrove.
