Last week, a vibrant four-day festival in Savusavu successfully generated $48,000 dedicated to youth development projects. The Cakaudrove Multi-Ethnic Youth and Sports Festival was collaboratively organized by the Cakaudrove Youth Council alongside the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Aubrey Whippy, the coordinator of the festival committee, emphasized the impressive contribution of the 14 queen contestants, who collectively raised $30,716.15. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, and North Divisional Manager Walter Matalau for their unwavering support and confidence in the Cakaudrove Youth Council’s ability to organize this inaugural carnival.
The highlight of the event was the crowning of Miss Vaturova, Temalesi Tuiwalese, as Miss Cakaudrove Youth during the celebration at Narain Park. Whippy noted that the committee would soon discuss the allocation of the funds for investment, development projects in Cakaudrove, and operational expenses.
Looking ahead, there are plans for an even larger carnival next year, with aspirations to include representation from all 15 districts and greater involvement from diverse ethnic communities, including Indo-Fijians, as well as residents from Rabi and Kioa islands. Whippy also took the opportunity to thank sponsors and all contributors who helped ensure the program’s success.
Additionally, Rosi Toroca, representing Koroalau, was recognized as Miss Charity after raising $7,612.
This festival not only highlighted the community’s commitment to youth development but also showcased the potential for greater inclusivity and diversity in future events. The efforts by the Cakaudrove Youth Council signal a bright future for community engagement and youth empowerment in the region.
