A four-day festival held in Savusavu last week successfully raised $48,000, which is designated for youth development initiatives. The Cakaudrove Multi-Ethnic Youth and Sports Festival was organized collaboratively by the Cakaudrove Youth Council and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Aubrey Whippy, the committee coordinator for the festival, reported that the 14 participating queen contestants collectively raised an impressive $30,716.15. During the closing event in Narain Park last Friday, Temalesi Tuiwalese, representing Vaturova, was crowned Miss Cakaudrove Youth.
Whippy expressed gratitude to Jese Saukuru, Minister for Youth and Sports, and his team, particularly divisional North manager Walter Matalau, for their invaluable support and confidence in the Cakaudrove Youth Council, marking a successful inaugural carnival.
Discussing the allocation of the raised funds, Whippy indicated that discussions would take place regarding investments, development projects for Cakaudrove, and covering operational costs.
Looking ahead, the committee plans to organize a larger and more inclusive carnival next year, aspiring to represent all 15 districts and welcome participation from diverse ethnic communities, including Indo-Fijians, Rabi, and Kioa.
Rosi Toroca, who represented Koroalau, was crowned Miss Charity after raising $7,612.
This successful event not only raised significant funds to foster youth development but also showcased the strength of community and collaboration among various ethnic groups. The future looks bright for the Cakaudrove Youth Council as they aim for even greater participation and impact next year.
