Savura’s Epic Comeback Secures Spot in Rugby Final

The Savura rugby team from Tamavua Village showcased their skills and determination by defeating the Eastern Saints 17-13 in the FMF Suva Rugby Union Koroturaga quarter-final held at Bidesi grounds in Suva yesterday.

The match began with Eastern Saints taking an early lead, scoring 6-3 against Savura. However, Savura bounced back in the second half, demonstrating resilience and a strong work ethic. The enthusiastic support from fans and supporters on the sidelines boosted the team’s energy, helping them secure the win.

With the match concluding at 17-13, Savura has earned a place in the final, marking a significant milestone for the team. Inoke Sucucoro, the team manager, praised the players for their hard work and acknowledged the competitive nature of the game against Eastern Saints.

Sucucoro stressed the importance of the match as a stepping stone for the finals and highlighted the team’s strategy and determination. “It was a great preparation for the boys. We knew it wouldn’t be an easy match, especially in such an important quarter-final,” said Sucucoro. He noted that this achievement is historic for the team, as they had previously reached the quarter-finals but were eliminated.

Reflecting on the game, he identified areas for improvement and mentioned the team’s plans to rectify mistakes before the finals. The Savura team comprises young players aged 17 to 26, with a focus on ongoing learning and development.

Sucucoro expressed his appreciation for the large turnout of supporters and is looking forward to an even bigger crowd during the finals. In other news, Covenant Red narrowly defeated Marist OB 23-22 in the Koroturaga semi-final.
