The Savura rugby team from Tamavua Village showcased their skills by defeating Eastern Saints 17-13 in the FMF Suva Rugby Union Koroturaga quarter-final held at Bidesi grounds in Suva yesterday.
The match began with Eastern Saints taking an early lead, scoring 6-3 against Savura. However, Savura displayed remarkable determination in the second half, energizing their performance with support from enthusiastic fans and supporters along the sidelines.
The final score, 17-13, guaranteed Savura’s place in the final, marking a significant milestone for the team. Team manager Inoke Sucucoro praised the players for their commitment and acknowledged the fierce competition they faced from Eastern Saints.
Sucucoro noted the match’s significance in preparing for the upcoming final and commended the team’s game plan and dedication. “It was a great preparation for the boys, we knew it wouldn’t be an easy match, especially in such a crucial quarter-final,” Sucucoro stated.
He highlighted the hard work the team put in and how they have improved since last year, when they were eliminated in the quarter-finals. “This is a major achievement for the boys,” he added.
Reflecting on the match, Sucucoro recognized areas needing improvement and outlined strategies to rectify mistakes before the final. He mentioned that the Savura team consists of young players aged 17-26, emphasizing a commitment to ongoing growth and development.

In another match, Covenant Red narrowly defeated Marist OB with a score of 23-22 in the Koroturaga semi-final.
