The Savura rugby team from Tamavua Village showcased their strength on the field by defeating Eastern Saints with a score of 17-13 in the FMF Suva Rugby Union Koroturaga quarter-final held at Bidesi grounds in Suva yesterday.
Eastern Saints began the match strong, taking an early lead of 6-3. However, Savura demonstrated impressive resilience in the second half, driven by hard work and determination. The crowd’s cheers and encouragement from fans played a crucial role in boosting the team’s morale as they fought for victory.
The final score of 17-13 secured Savura a place in the final, marking a significant achievement for the team. Inoke Sucucoro, the team manager, praised the players for their efforts and acknowledged the tough competition posed by Eastern Saints.
Sucucoro emphasized the importance of the match as preparation for the final and credited the team’s game plan and determination. “It was a great preparation for the boys; we knew it wouldn’t be an easy match, especially coming into this important quarter-final,” he said. He noted that the team had worked hard and proved themselves, especially after falling short in last year’s quarter-finals.
Reflecting on the match, Sucucoro recognized areas for improvement and made plans to rectify mistakes before the final. He mentioned that the Savura team consists of young players aged 17-26, focusing on continuous learning and development.
He also expressed gratitude to the supporters for their turnout and looked forward to an even larger crowd at the final. In another update from the tournament, Covenant Red narrowly defeated Marist OB with a score of 23-22 in the Koroturaga semi-final.
