Savura Rugby Team Overcomes Eastern Saints in Thrilling Quarter-Final Clash!

The Savura rugby team from Tamavua Village showcased their strength on the field by defeating Eastern Saints 17-13 in the FMF Suva Rugby Union Koroturaga quarter-final held at Bidesi grounds in Suva.

The match kicked off with Eastern Saints getting ahead 6-3, but Savura turned the tide in the second half, displaying remarkable perseverance and determination. Their efforts were energized by the enthusiastic support from fans gathered on the sidelines.

With the final score of 17-13, Savura secured a place in the final, marking a significant milestone for the team. Team manager Inoke Sucucoro praised the players for their dedication and acknowledged the tough challenge posed by Eastern Saints.

Sucucoro stressed the importance of this match in terms of preparation for the upcoming final and reflected on their game plan and resolve. “It was a great preparation for the boys; we knew it wouldn’t be an easy match, especially in such a critical quarter-final,” he stated. He added, “We have put in the hard work, and we have really proven ourselves in the competition. This achievement is significant as last year we reached the quarter-finals and were eliminated, so this is a major step forward for the team.”

Looking back at the game, he pointed out areas needing improvement and mentioned plans to rectify mistakes before the final. The Savura team, comprised of young players aged 17 to 26, is committed to ongoing learning and growth.

Sucucoro also expressed gratitude to the supporters who came out in large numbers and looked forward to an even greater turnout in the final. In another match, Covenant Red narrowly defeated Marist OB with a score of 23-22 in the Koroturaga semi-final.
