The Sausauvou Taveuni under-21 rugby team is excited to make its debut at the renowned Fiji Bitter Marist 7s tournament, which kicked off today at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. Team Captain Tevita Sukabula highlighted their ambition, stating that they aim not just to take part, but to win the prestigious title, marking their entry into this competitive arena.

Having recently achieved success by securing the Plate in the under-21 category at the McDonald’s Coral Coast 7s, the team views the Marist 7s as a critical opportunity to demonstrate their abilities. Sukabula expressed their enthusiasm, saying, “We want to win the title, and we believe that we are able to achieve this.” This spirit underscores the tournament’s significance as the largest rugby event in Fiji, uniting teams from across the nation and neighboring islands.

In preparation for their matches, which include facing Bureta Young Boys at 9:20 am, Bua Babas at 1:04 pm, and Savali Logistics at 4:58 pm, the Sausauvou Taveuni squad has focused on improving areas identified as weaknesses during their participation in previous Fiji Bitter 7s series tournaments.

This year’s Fiji Bitter Marist 7s boasts participation from 64 teams, an increase that reflects the event’s growing prominence and its role in fostering young talent. The tournament not only provides a competitive platform for emerging athletes but also emphasizes the values of rivalry and sportsmanship, creating an exciting atmosphere that resonates with the rich rugby culture of Fiji.

The journey ahead for Sausauvou Taveuni is marked by hope and determination as they strive to leave a lasting impression in the world of rugby. The tournament embodies a fantastic opportunity for them to showcase their skills and heart, promising a bright future for this young team.
