Santiago Gomez Cora, the ambassador for the 2025 McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast, will unfortunately miss the upcoming three-day tournament due to medical advice following an emergency surgery. The head coach of the Argentina sevens team has been advised not to travel for at least a month as he focuses on his recovery.

In a statement on the official Coral Coast 7s Facebook page, well-wishes were extended to Santiago, expressing hope to see him in Fiji by 2026.

As for the tournament, the Fiji 7s team leads Pool A, which also includes New Zealand sevens team 2, Tuva, and Brothers. Pool B consists of New Zealand Sevens 1, Drua 7s, Seattle Barbarians, and Colo West. In Pool C, BLK Lavidi, Manu Samoa 7s, Bula Bay 7s, and Ratu Filise will compete, while Pool D showcases teams like Aussie Select 7s and McDonald’s Mike Friday Select 7s, alongside Devo Babas and Taikita Brothers 7s.

In summary, while Santiago’s absence is a disappointment, the tournament promises to be an exciting showcase of talent and competition, bringing together diverse teams from across the globe. Fans can look forward to thrilling matches and hope for Santiago’s swift recovery so he can participate in future events.
