Santiago Gomez Cora, the 2025 McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast ambassador and head coach of the Argentina Sevens team, will not attend the upcoming three-day tournament due to medical reasons. Following an emergency surgery, his doctor has advised against travel for at least a month.

In a statement released on the official Coral Coast 7s Facebook page, organizers expressed their best wishes for Santiago’s swift recovery and noted that they look forward to his participation in 2026.

As the tournament approaches, the Fiji 7s team has been placed in Pool A alongside New Zealand Sevens team 2, with Tuva and Brothers rounding out that pool. Meanwhile, Pool B consists of New Zealand Sevens 1, Drua 7s, Seattle Barbarians, and Colo West. In Pool C, teams include BLK Lavidi, Manu Samoa 7s, Bula Bay 7s, and Ratu Filise. Pool D features the overseas squads Aussie Select 7s and McDonald’s Mike Friday Select 7s, along with Devo Babas and Taikita Brothers 7s.

This tournament promises to be an exciting competition in the world of rugby sevens, showcasing local talent and international teams. The anticipation is building, and many are hopeful for a thrilling display of sportsmanship in Fiji, even as they send their support to Santiago Gomez Cora during his recovery.
