Santiago Gomez Cora, the ambassador for the 2025 McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast tournament, will not attend the upcoming three-day event next week due to medical advice following an emergency surgery. The head coach of the Argentina sevens team has been advised not to travel for at least a month as part of his recovery process.
The Coral Coast 7s official Facebook page announced his absence and extended well wishes for Cora’s speedy recovery, expressing hope for his participation in future events, particularly in Fiji in 2026.
In tournament news, the Fiji 7s team leads Pool A, competing against the New Zealand sevens team 2, along with Tuva and Brothers. Pool B consists of New Zealand Sevens 1, Drua 7s, Seattle Barbarians, and Colo West. Meanwhile, Pool MC includes BLK Lavidi, Manu Samoa 7s, Bula Bay 7s, and Ratu Filise. Pool D features two international teams, the Aussie Select 7s and McDonald’s Mike Friday Select 7s, alongside the Devo Babas and Taikita Brothers 7s.
This event promises to be an exciting showcase of talent from both local and international teams. Despite Cora’s absence, his well-wishes pave the way for camaraderie and resilience in the sport, and fans can look forward to thrilling matches ahead.
