Santiago Gomez Cora, the appointed ambassador for the 2025 McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast, will unfortunately miss the upcoming three-day tournament due to medical reasons. Following an emergency surgery, the Argentina sevens head coach has been advised by his doctor to refrain from traveling for at least a month to ensure a proper recovery.

In light of this news, the Coral Coast 7s expressed their best wishes for Santiago’s recovery, expressing hope to see him back in Fiji for the event in 2026. The announcement was shared on the official Coral Coast 7s Facebook page, emphasizing the community’s support for Santiago during this time.

On the competitive front, the Fiji 7s team is set to lead Pool A, where they are joined by the New Zealand sevens team 2, as well as Tuva and Brothers. Pool B features New Zealand Sevens 1, Drua 7s, Seattle Barbarians, and Colo West. Meanwhile, Pool C includes BLK Lavidi, Manu Samoa 7s, Bula Bay 7s, and Ratu Filise, while Pool D features the Aussie Select 7s and McDonald’s Mike Friday Select 7s, rounding out the teams with Devo Babas and Taikita Brothers 7s.

In summary, while the absence of Santiago Gomez Cora is a notable loss for the tournament, the event promises to showcase thrilling competitions among strong teams, bringing excitement to rugby fans. Wishing a speedy recovery to Santiago stands as a reminder of the camaraderie that sports foster, both on and off the field.
