The 63rd Annual Sanatan Convention launched in Lautoka yesterday, attracting a significant number of participants despite the extreme heat. Teams from across Fiji’s southern division and international visitors took some time to adapt to the rising temperatures, especially after a spell of rain earlier in the week.

Sanjay Ram, president of the Sanatan Sportswing, highlighted that the competition would intensify today. “On the first day, most teams played their opening matches, and will continue with their pool games tomorrow,” he noted. The stakes are high, with teams fiercely competing for playoff positions, promising intense match-ups.

In opening matches, the results were quite notable: Navua triumphed over Votualevu with a score of 4-2, while Samabula dominated Nadi with a 3-1 win, and Nasinu secured a strong victory against Taveuni, finishing 4-1.

The vibrant atmosphere of the convention underscores its importance in promoting sports and cultural pride within the Sanatan community. It serves as a platform not only for competition but also for nurturing the community spirit, fostering relationships, and encouraging youth involvement in sports. The anticipation for upcoming matches sets a positive tone, promising exciting games that celebrate both athleticism and camaraderie.
