Manu Samoa captain Theo McFarland has expressed his honor in leading his team against the Flying Fijians in the opening match of the Pacific Nations Cup at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. In a recent interview with SUNsports after their captain’s rugby session, the 28-year-old lock, who plays for Saracens in the Gallagher Premiership, acknowledged the significant challenge ahead but emphasized his gratitude for the opportunity.
McFarland, who will face off against Flying Fijians prop Eroni Mawi, said, “The Flying Fijians are a very good side. We are a young team, and we plan to focus on our defense, especially against Fiji. We will look for areas where we can exploit weaknesses against our Fijian brothers.”
Samoa’s head coach, Mahoni Schwalger, described McFarland as a young captain approaching a critical test in how he leads his team. Schwalger noted, “He is doing really well. Theo is managing the captaincy effectively, offering guidance, and leading his pack.”
