Manu Samoa captain Theo McFarland expressed his pride and honor in leading his team against the Flying Fijians in the opening match of the Pacific Nations Cup at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. In a recent interview with SUNsports after their rugby captain’s training, the 28-year-old lock, who plays for Saracens in the Gallagher Premiership, acknowledged the challenging task ahead but emphasized his gratitude for the opportunity.
McFarland noted the strength of the Flying Fijians and recognized the need for his young team to focus on their defensive strategies. “We are a young side but we will look at our defense especially coming up against Fiji,” he stated, also mentioning the importance of identifying weaknesses in the Fijian gameplay.
Samoa’s head coach, Mahoni Schwalger, praised McFarland for his leadership as a young captain. “He is doing really well. Theo is handling the captaincy really well, giving pointers and leading his pack,” Schwalger remarked, highlighting the expectations placed on McFarland as he prepares to guide his team into battle.
