Samoa’s Young Captain Prepares for Pivotal Clash Against Fiji

Manu Samoa captain Theo McFarland expressed his pride in leading his team against the Flying Fijians in the opening match of the Pacific Nations Cup tonight at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. In an interview with SUNsports following their captain’s rugby session, the 28-year-old lock, who plays for Saracens in the Gallagher Premiership, acknowledged the significant challenge ahead but valued the chance to take on such a task.

McFarland noted that the Flying Fijians are a formidable opponent and emphasized the importance of defense as they prepare to face the team. “We are a young side but we will look at our defense especially coming up against Fiji. We are looking at areas where we can exploit and use against our Fijian brothers,” he stated. His teammate, Eroni Mawi, is among the reserves for Fiji.

Samoa’s head coach Mahoni Schwalger praised McFarland as a young captain who will face a significant test in how he leads the team into today’s match. “He is doing really well. Theo is handling the captaincy really well, giving pointers and leading his pack,” Schwalger remarked.
