Samoa’s Young Captain Braces for Epic Clash Against Fiji

Theo McFarland, the captain of Manu Samoa, expressed his honor in leading his team against the Flying Fijians in the opening match of the Pacific Nations Cup at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. In an interview with SUNsports following a rugby captain’s practice, the 28-year-old lock, who plays for Saracens in the Gallagher Premiership, acknowledged the significant challenge ahead but valued the opportunity it presents.

McFarland noted his familiarity with Flying Fijians prop Eroni Mawi, who will be on the reserve bench. He remarked, “The Flying Fijians are a very good side. We are a young side, but we will focus on our defense, particularly against Fiji. We are looking for areas to exploit against our Fijian brothers.”

Samoa’s head coach, Mahoni Schwalger, referred to McFarland as a young captain facing a critical test in how he leads the team into this match. Schwalger praised McFarland’s performance, stating, “He is handling the captaincy really well, providing guidance and leading his pack.”
