Samoan rugby clubs Marist St Joseph and Faleata Sports Domain are aiming to make history by being the first overseas team to win the prestigious Fiji Bitter Marist Sevens tournament. Marist St Joseph’s spokesperson, Joseph Silver, conveyed their strong desire for the Cup, while Faleata Sports Domain’s manager, Mark Joseph Finau, echoed this ambition, asserting their team’s competitiveness.
The tournament, held at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, commenced today and will continue until Saturday. Defending champions Army Green, led by captain Inia Tawalo, are gearing up to retain their title. Tawalo acknowledged the fierce competition they will face, emphasizing the focus on the basics and treating each match as if it were a final.
This year’s tournament promises to showcase a vibrant array of rugby talent, featuring over 95 teams, including strong contenders from both local and international clubs.
