A large number of Samoan supporters gathered at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva yesterday to back the Samoa under-16 women’s football team, which secured a 1-0 victory over Fiji in the OFC Women’s under-16 championship. The match was crucial, as the winner would claim the top spot in Group A.
The team received enthusiastic support from university students and Samoans of all ages, who rallied together to cheer the players on from the beginning. Their presence was felt throughout the game, as supporters shouted encouraging remarks, motivating the team during a fiercely competitive match.
Sifo Tanuvasa, a student at the University of the South Pacific, shared her joy in the team’s success. She expressed gratitude for the victory and pride in the young athletes’ performance. In her excitement, she encouraged the players to continue their momentum, saying, “We’re so glad and happy for your win, just keep it up and Samoa always.”
With this victory, Samoa moves on to the semi-finals from Group A, where they will face the runner-up from Group B. The semi-finals are scheduled to take place in Suva on Wednesday, with the championship final set for Saturday.
