Samoa vs Fiji: A Clash of Titans in the Pacific Nations Cup!

Manu Samoa head coach Mahonri Schwalger emphasized the significance of their upcoming match, stating that the Flying Fijians are known for their ability to soar when given the opportunity. Schwalger expressed enthusiasm during their practice session at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, noting the excitement surrounding the start of a new competition.

As a former captain of Samoa during the 2011 Rugby World Cup, Schwalger shared his anticipation for a physical contest against the Flying Fijians in their Pacific Nations Cup opener. He highlighted the unpredictability of Fiji’s playing style as a major challenge for his team.

This match holds special importance as it coincides with the Samoa Rugby Union’s centenary celebration. Rugby was introduced to Samoa in 1920 by the Marist Brothers, with the Apia Rugby Union being established in 1924. The historical rivalry dates back to August 18, 1924, when Western Samoa faced Fiji in their first international match in Apia, with Fiji emerging victorious.

Schwalger acknowledged the daunting task ahead but expressed confidence in his team’s preparations over the past three weeks. He remarked that this year is particularly meaningful for them, as the entire nation is watching their journey.

He also noted that for some of the new players, this will be their first experience playing in Fiji, making the match even more exciting. The game is set to kick off at 6 PM.
