Samoa Stuns Fiji, Secures Spot in OFC U-16 Semi-Finals!

Samoa defeated the host nation Fiji 1-0 in the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship, ensuring their advancement to the semi-finals as the leaders of Group A. This outcome allowed Tonga to qualify in second place, leaving Fiji eliminated from the tournament.

Fiji required at least a draw to continue in the competition, but their hopes were dashed. The match was fiercely competitive from the onset, with both teams displaying strong physical play despite several changes in their line-ups.

An early injury forced Fiji to substitute Asenaca Naio with Suliana Vuniyayawa, and neither team was able to capitalize in the first half.

The tide turned in the second half when Samoa introduced Holly Leapai, whose impact was immediate. In the 51st minute, Ayres Ava managed to score the only goal of the match by redirecting a high ball past Fiji’s goalkeeper Aliana Vakalomoa.

Fiji mounted a strong effort to find an equalizer, with Vakalomoa making crucial saves and midfielder Sisilia Kuladina attempting long-range shots. Nonetheless, Samoa’s defense proved resilient, and Fiji was unable to score.

Ultimately, Samoa secured the victory and will advance to the semi-finals, while Fiji’s tournament journey ends on a disappointing note.
