Samoa has secured a spot in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after a 2-0 victory over New Caledonia in the semi-finals of the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship held in Suva.
The match began with a strong performance from Samoa, who took an early lead with two quick goals. Holly Leapai scored the first goal just three minutes into the match, followed shortly by Kealia Nansen, who doubled the advantage.
New Caledonia responded to the initial pressure and managed to stabilize their game but found it challenging to penetrate Samoa’s robust defense. Despite several attempts, including near misses off the goal post, New Caledonia was unable to score.
Samoa continued to dominate, coming close to increasing their lead with a free kick that struck the crossbar. The match ended with Samoa holding onto their 2-0 advantage, marking a historic win that guarantees their place in the upcoming World Cup.
With this victory, Samoa now sets its sights on the final of the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship, hoping to build on their successful run and potentially claim the championship title.
