Samoa has achieved a significant milestone in their OFC U-16 Women’s Championship campaign, securing a second consecutive win with a 2-0 finish against Tonga in Suva. This victory bolsters their lead in Group A and moves them closer to the semi-finals.

The match began with Samoa demonstrating their strength from the outset, showcasing quick ball movement and effectively utilizing their wingers to break through Tonga’s defenses. The first goal came from Taimane Devoux, who took advantage of a mistake by the Tongan goalkeeper after Leah Atuaia’s accurately placed free-kick.

This goal set a positive tone for Samoa, who continued to press for additional goals. In the second half, they maintained their attacking momentum, with notable contributions from captain Lynn Aiono Sagiao and Jayde Sagapolutele. Sagiao ultimately scored with a powerful shot from near the penalty area, extending their lead.

Tonga faced challenges, particularly due to the absence of key player Tyra Bagiante, who was sidelined by injury. This left them struggling to execute effective counterattacks and often on the defensive. While they created a few promising opportunities, they were unable to convert these chances into goals.

With this victory, Samoa has secured their spot in the semi-finals. Conversely, Tonga now finds itself in a precarious position, needing to win their next match against the Cook Islands to stay in contention for advancement.
