Samoa Prepares for Epic Battle Against Fiji in PNC Opener

Manu Samoa head coach Mahonri Schwalger expressed excitement ahead of their Pacific Nations Cup opener against the Flying Fijians, emphasizing the team’s readiness for a competitive match. Speaking during the team’s captain’s run at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, Schwalger highlighted the unique challenge posed by Fiji’s unpredictable style of play.

“The Flying Fijians have a nickname for a reason; if they are allowed to take flight, they will,” he stated. Schwalger, who captained Samoa during the 2011 Rugby World Cup, noted the significance of the game not only as a crucial matchup but also in celebration of the Samoa Rugby Union’s 100-year anniversary.

He recalled the historical ties between Samoa and Fiji, pointing out that the first international match between the two was held on August 18, 1924, resulting in a victory for Fiji. With the entire nation watching and supporting their efforts, Schwalger expressed confidence that his team, having prepared for three weeks, is ready to tackle the challenge.

The match is set to kick off at 6 PM, promising an exciting showdown on Fiji’s home turf.
