The Samoan Electoral Commission has confirmed 27 parliamentary seats, marking the third day of official counting for the 2025 general election. Initially, twelve seats were confirmed on Monday, followed by additional confirmations on Tuesday afternoon. As of 11 a.m. Wednesday NZ time, the Faʻatuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (FAST) party secured 15 seats, the Human Rights Protection Party (HRPP) won nine, while three independents have claimed one seat each. The Samoa United Party, led by Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata’afa, has not yet secured any seats.

Preliminary results indicated a strong performance by FAST, suggesting control over 30 seats, but these results remain provisional until official declarations. The Samoan parliament, known as the Fono, consists of 51 members, and the final outcome will depend on the distribution of the remaining seats.

This election follows a period of political upheaval characterized by the FAST party’s rise. Samoa’s political landscape has been notably dynamic, with record numbers of candidates participating, representing six political parties and a considerable number of independents. Such developments highlight a remarkable engagement in Samoa’s democratic processes, reflecting broader public interest in shaping the country’s governance dynamics.

Moreover, the election context was set by tensions within the FAST party, budgetary challenges, and the presence of a caretaker government led by Fiame Naomi Mata’afa. Despite these hurdles, there is hope that the results will foster a renewed, stable, and collaborative political environment, contributing to an accountable leadership structure for Samoa.
