A landslide on Vatoa Street near Moala Street in Samabula occurred around 6 PM today, causing considerable damage to a residential property and igniting new safety concerns among local residents. According to a neighbor who witnessed the event, loud banging noises caught his attention, prompting him to step outside, where he discovered that a landslide had severely impacted a nearby home.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident, highlighting a somewhat fortunate outcome amid the destruction. The homeowner, Sandeep Shankar, revealed to FBC News that this is not the first instance of a landslide affecting his property. He noted that although previous landslides had occurred in the area, the recent event resulted in more significant damage than before.

Shankar expressed his frustrations, stating that he had previously reported worries about land stability in the vicinity to local authorities; however, no preventative measures were taken. At the time of the landslide, the house was unoccupied, which may have prevented a more tragic outcome.

Residents are now calling on authorities to thoroughly assess the risk of landslides in the area and to implement preventative strategies to safeguard their homes. This incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges posed by natural events in urban settings, emphasizing the need for proactive measures to ensure community safety.
