Hurricanes winger Salesi Rayasi may soon be playing for the Flying Fijians, following his signing with French club RC Vannes. The move to France lifts his commitment to the All Blacks, which was a priority during his tenure with the Hurricanes.
In an April interview with SUNsports, the 27-year-old Rayasi expressed willingness to represent the Flying Fijians if given the opportunity. His father, Filipe Rayasi, also played for the Flying Fijians, earning 13 Test caps.
During his time with the Hurricanes, Salesi Rayasi played 51 games, including 33 starts, and scored 30 tries in Super Rugby. He also represented Auckland in the NPC, netting 40 tries in 52 matches. His athletic prowess and scoring ability have earned him several selections to the New Zealand rugby 7s team. Rayasi’s two-season contract with RC Vannes marks his first professional experience abroad.
