Yasawa Saints staged a comeback to beat the favorites, Lami Steelers, with a score of 28-14 in the semi-finals of the FNRLW (Fiji National Rugby League Women) Championship at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori on Saturday.
Saints captain Sereana Nasau expressed her emotional relief after the match, highlighting their determination to secure a spot in the final. A former player for the Fiji Pearls netball team, Nasau was visibly moved as she celebrated the victory.
“Credit goes to our players and the supporters who turned out in large numbers,” Nasau stated. “We knew it would be challenging to play catch-up rugby in the second half, but we had to push through.”
Nasau emphasized that the Saints are not finished yet and are on the brink of making history. “This will be my first rugby league final, and it’s a moment I will cherish,” she added.
While celebrating the win, she acknowledged the need for improvement in certain areas before the final. “There are some key aspects we need to work on. But for now, we will enjoy this victory and prepare for the final,” Nasau mentioned.
Throughout the match, Yasawa Saints demonstrated fierce defense and offense. “This victory is for everyone who has supported us. We couldn’t have achieved this without the hard work and dedication from our team and loyal fans,” she said.
The Saints will compete against the Police Sharks in the Championship final.
