Saints Shine Bright: Historic Win Paves Path to FNRLW Final

Yasawa Saints staged a remarkable comeback to secure a 28-14 victory over the Lami Steelers in the semi-finals of the Fiji National Rugby League Women (FNRLW) Championship, held at Nausori’s Ratu Cakobau Park on Saturday.

Saints captain Sereana Nasau expressed her emotional relief after the match, acknowledging the challenges her team faced and their determination to reach the final. The former Fiji Pearls netball player teared up as the final whistle blew.

“Big credit goes to the players and the supporters for their overwhelming presence,” Nasau stated. “We anticipated a tough second half and knew we would have to battle back.”

Nasau reiterated that the team is focused on their ultimate goal, emphasizing that they are just one step away from making history. “This will be my first experience playing in a rugby league final, and it’s a moment I will cherish,” she added.

Despite the victory, Nasau recognized the need for improvement in certain areas. “There are key aspects we need to refine. However, we will enjoy this win today and then get back to preparing for the final,” she noted.

The Yasawa Saints demonstrated impressive defense and offensive tactics throughout the match. Nasau dedicated the victory to everyone who has supported the team. “We owe this win to the hard work, dedication, and belief from our entire team and our loyal supporters,” she said.

The Saints are set to face the Police Sharks in the upcoming FNRLW Championship final.
