Yasawa Saints staged a remarkable comeback to defeat the favored Lami Steelers 28-14 in the semi-finals of the FNRLW (Fiji National Rugby League Women) Championship at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori on Saturday.
The Saints’ captain, Sereana Nasau, expressed her acknowledgment of the challenge ahead but affirmed their aim to secure a place in the final. Overcome with emotion at the final whistle, Nasau reflected on their journey.
“Credit goes to our players and the supporters who turned out in large numbers,” she said. “We anticipated a tough second half where we would have to play catch-up rugby, but we were determined to prevail.”
Nasau added that the team still has work to do, as they are now just one step away from making history. “This will be my first experience playing in a rugby league final, and it’s a moment I will always cherish,” she mentioned.
While celebrating their victory, Nasau acknowledged the areas needing improvement, stating, “There are key aspects we need to refine, but we will enjoy this win and prepare for the final.”
The Yasawa Saints demonstrated a fierce performance in both defense and attack throughout the match. “This victory represents everyone who has supported us along the way. Our success is a result of the dedication, hard work, and belief of our entire team and our loyal supporters,” she noted.
The Saints are set to face the Police Sharks in the upcoming FNRLW Championship final.
