Saint Mary’s Primary School successfully defended its title in the Fiji Primary Schools Labasa Athletics Zone competition held at Subrail Park. The school achieved an impressive haul of 30 gold, 17 silver, and eight bronze medals, totaling 55 medals.
Sunil Dutt, the head teacher of Saint Mary’s Primary School, expressed his gratitude to the 88 athletes for their hard work and dedication. He also acknowledged the support of teachers, coaches, and parents, highlighting the collaborative effort that contributed to the students’ achievements. “It was a tough competition among the 17 schools that participated,” Dutt noted, emphasizing the rigorous nature of the event.
Comparing this year’s performance to last year’s, Dutt proudly mentioned that the school secured more medals this time around. This achievement reflects the ongoing development and talent within the school’s athletics program.
Penaia Tunayau, the meet manager, praised the organizing committee and teachers for ensuring the safety of all participants, as there were no major injuries despite heavy rainfall during the event. He highlighted the determination of the athletes, stating that the adverse weather conditions could not hinder their ability to showcase their skills and talents.
Looking ahead, the victorious athletes are now preparing for the upcoming national meet scheduled for later this month in Suva.
