Saint Mary’s Primary School successfully defended its title in the Fiji Primary Schools Labasa Athletics Zone competition held at Subrail Park. The school achieved an impressive medal haul, consisting of 30 gold, 17 silver, and eight bronze medals, totaling 55 medals in all.
Head teacher Sunil Dutt expressed his gratitude to the 88 athletes for their hard work and dedication, emphasizing the support from teachers, coaches, and parents in helping the students excel. Dutt noted that the competition was fierce among the 17 schools that took part, and he is proud that Saint Mary’s managed to improve its medal count compared to the previous year.
In addition, Penaia Tunayau, the competition meet manager, acknowledged the efforts of the organizing committee and the teachers in ensuring the safety of all participants during the event. He commended the athletes for their resilience in the face of heavy rain, demonstrating their commitment to showcasing their talents.
Looking ahead, the victorious athletes will now shift their focus to preparing for the national meet scheduled to take place at the end of this month in Suva.
This achievement not only highlights the athletic prowess of Saint Mary’s students but also showcases the community spirit and support surrounding youth sports in Fiji, laying a strong foundation for future competitions.
