Saint Mary’s Primary School successfully defended its title at the Fiji Primary Schools Labasa Athletics Zone competition held at Subrail Park. The school excelled, winning an impressive 30 gold medals, 17 silvers, and eight bronze, totaling 55 medals overall.
Head teacher Sunil Dutt expressed his gratitude towards the 88 athletes for their commitment and for bringing pride to the school. He emphasized the importance of the support from teachers, coaches, and parents, acknowledging the collaborative effort that made their success possible. Dutt noted that this year’s performance surpassed their medal tally from the previous year, showcasing the school’s improvement and dedication.
Penaia Tunayau, the meet manager, commended the organizing committee and faculty for ensuring a safe environment during the event, noting that despite heavy rain, the athletes demonstrated remarkable resilience and talent.
Looking ahead, the athletes now set their sights on the national meet scheduled for the end of the month in Suva, where they will aim to continue their impressive performances. This event not only highlights the school’s achievements but also reflects the growing commitment to youth athletics in Fiji.
