Saint Mary’s Primary School has successfully defended its title at the Fiji Primary Schools Labasa Athletics Zone competition, held at Subrail Park yesterday. The school showcased outstanding performance, securing a remarkable total of 55 medals—30 gold, 17 silver, and 8 bronze.
Headteacher Sunil Dutt expressed gratitude towards the 88 athletes for their hard work and dedication, which played a pivotal role in the school’s success. He also acknowledged the support from teachers, coaches, and parents that was vital in helping the students represent the school with pride. Dutt noted that this year’s medal count surpassed last year’s achievements, highlighting the school’s progress in athletics.
Penaia Tunayau, the meet manager for the Fiji Primary Schools Labasa Athletics Zone competition, commended both the organizing committee and teachers for ensuring the safety of participants, with no major injuries reported. He noted the determination of the athletes, who performed brilliantly despite challenging weather conditions, including heavy rain.
