Saint Mary’s Shines Again at Fiji Athletics Championships!

Saint Mary’s Primary School successfully defended its title at the Fiji Primary Schools Labasa Athletics Zone competition held at Subrail Park. The school showcased an impressive performance, winning 30 gold medals, along with 17 silvers and eight bronzes, which totaled an outstanding count of 55 medals.

Head teacher Sunil Dutt expressed his gratitude towards the 88 athletes for their hard work and dedication in making the school proud. Dutt also acknowledged the support from teachers, coaches, and parents, emphasizing the importance of their roles in helping the students represent the school. He noted that the competition was intense, with 17 schools participating, and he was pleased to see an increase in medals compared to the previous year.

Penaia Tunayau, the meet manager for the Fiji Primary Schools Labasa Athletics Zone competition, thanked the organizing committee and teachers for their efforts in ensuring a safe event without major injuries or accidents. He remarked on the athletes’ resilience, stating that even heavy rain could not hinder their ability to showcase their skills and talents.

With this victory, the winners will now shift their focus to preparing for the national meet taking place at the end of the month in Suva, where they will aim to continue their success.
