Saint Mary’s Primary School successfully defended its title at the Fiji Primary Schools Labasa Athletics Zone competition, held yesterday at Subrail Park. The school achieved an impressive haul of 30 gold, 17 silver, and eight bronze medals, totaling 55 medals in this year’s competition.
Head teacher Sunil Dutt praised the hard work and commitment of the 88 athletes who represented the school. He expressed gratitude to the teachers, coaches, and parents for their unwavering support. Dutt remarked on the competitiveness of the event, which featured 17 participating schools, and highlighted that Saint Mary’s Primary School won more medals than they did last year.
Penaia Tunayau, the meet manager for the Fiji Primary Schools Labasa Athletics Zone competition, acknowledged the efforts of the organizing committee and teachers in ensuring the safety of all participants, noting that there were no major injuries despite the heavy rain during the event. Tunayau stated that the athletes showed remarkable determination to showcase their talents under challenging conditions.
With this victory, the winners are now set to prepare for the upcoming national meet at the end of the month in Suva, which promises to be another exciting opportunity for the athletes to shine on a larger platform.
