Saint Mary’s Primary School has successfully defended its title at the Fiji Primary Schools Labasa Athletics Zone competition held at Subrail Park. The school excelled, securing an impressive total of 55 medals, including 30 gold, 17 silver, and eight bronze.
Head teacher Sunil Dutt expressed gratitude towards the school’s 88 athletes for their commitment and dedication in representing their institution. He also acknowledged the support from teachers, coaches, and parents, which played a significant role in their achievements. “It was a tough competition among the 17 schools that participated,” he noted, emphasizing that their medal count surpassed last year’s performance.
Penaia Tunayau, the meet manager for the Fiji Primary Schools Labasa Athletics Zone competition, also lauded the organizing committee and the teachers for their efforts in ensuring the safety of all athletes, as the event continued despite heavy rain. “Even though there was heavy rain, the athletes proved that nothing could stop them from displaying their skills and talents,” Tunayau remarked.
Looking ahead, the victorious athletes will prepare for the upcoming national meet scheduled for the end of the month in Suva, marking yet another exciting chapter for Saint Mary’s Primary School.
