Saint Mary’s Primary School successfully defended its title at the Fiji Primary Schools Labasa Athletics Zone competition held at Subrail Park. The school excelled in the event, securing an impressive 30 gold, 17 silver, and 8 bronze medals, totaling 55 medals overall.
Head teacher Sunil Dutt expressed his gratitude to the 88 athletes for their hard work and commitment, which contributed to the school’s success. He also acknowledged the vital support from teachers, coaches, and parents, who stood by the students during the competition, emphasizing the rigorous nature of the event that involved 17 participating schools.
Notably, Dutt pointed out that the school’s medal count this year surpassed that of last year, highlighting improved performance and dedication among the athletes. Penaia Tunayau, the meet manager, also thanked the organizing committee and the teachers for ensuring a safe environment without major incidents. Despite heavy rainfall during the event, the athletes demonstrated resilience and were determined to showcase their skills.
Looking ahead, the victorious athletes will now prepare for the national competition set to take place later this month in Suva.
This achievement reflects the hard work and spirit of cooperation within the school community. It serves as an inspiration to young athletes everywhere that dedication and teamwork can lead to great accomplishments, even in challenging conditions.
