Saint Mary’s Primary School has successfully defended its title in the Fiji Primary Schools Labasa Athletics Zone competition held at Subrail Park yesterday. Demonstrating remarkable athletic prowess, the school secured a total of 55 medals, including 30 gold, 17 silver, and 8 bronze.
Head teacher Sunil Dutt expressed immense gratitude to the 88 participating athletes for their hard work and determination in elevating the school’s reputation. He also extended his appreciation to the teachers, coaches, and parents for their unwavering support throughout the competition.
“We faced tough competition from 17 participating schools,” Dutt noted, highlighting that the school achieved a better medal tally than the previous year.
Penaia Tunayau, the meet manager for the Fiji Primary Schools Labasa Athletics Zone, commended the organizing committee and teachers for ensuring a safe event with no serious injuries or accidents. Despite challenging weather conditions, including heavy rainfall, the athletes showcased their resilience and talent.
Looking ahead, the winning athletes will now focus on their preparations for the upcoming national meet in Suva, scheduled for the end of this month.
