Saint Mary’s Primary School successfully defended its title at the Fiji Primary Schools Labasa Athletics Zone competition held at Subrail Park yesterday. The school secured an impressive total of 55 medals, comprising 30 gold, 17 silver, and eight bronze.
Head teacher Sunil Dutt expressed his gratitude to the 88 athletes for their hard work and commitment, which contributed to the school’s success. He also acknowledged the support of teachers, coaches, and parents, emphasizing their vital role in the students’ achievements. Dutt noted that despite fierce competition from 17 participating schools, Saint Mary’s managed to outperform their previous year’s results.
Penaia Tunayau, the meet manager for the Fiji Primary Schools Labasa Athletics Zone competition, commended the organizing committee and teachers for ensuring the event ran smoothly, without any major injuries or accidents. He highlighted the athletes’ resilience, pointing out that even heavy rain could not hinder their performance.
Looking ahead, the winners are now gearing up for the national meet set to take place later this month in Suva, where they will have the opportunity to showcase their talents on a larger stage.
