Saint Mary’s Primary School successfully defended its title at the Fiji Primary Schools Labasa Athletics Zone competition held at Subrail Park. The school achieved a remarkable haul of 30 gold, 17 silver, and eight bronze medals, totalling 55 medals.
Head teacher Sunil Dutt expressed his gratitude to the 88 athletes for their hard work and dedication, which brought pride to the school. He acknowledged the support from teachers, coaches, and parents, emphasizing the strong teamwork that contributed to their success despite the challenging environment. Dutt noted that their performance this year surpassed last year’s medal count.
Meet manager Penaia Tunayau praised the organizing committee and teachers for ensuring the safety of all participants, with no major injuries reported during the event. He highlighted the athletes’ resilience, as they managed to compete even amid heavy rain, showcasing their talent and determination.
With this victory, Saint Mary’s Primary School is set to prepare for the upcoming national meet in Suva, scheduled for the end of the month.
