Saint Mary’s Primary School has successfully defended its title at the Fiji Primary Schools Labasa Athletics Zone competition held at Subrail Park. The school brought home an impressive total of 55 medals, comprising 30 gold, 17 silver, and 8 bronze.
Head teacher Sunil Dutt expressed gratitude to the 88 athletes for their hard work and dedication to representing the school. He also acknowledged the support from teachers, coaches, and parents, highlighting that the competition was intense with 17 participating schools.
Dutt noted that the school’s medal count had improved from the previous year, indicating their growth and commitment to excellence in athletics.
Penaia Tunayau, the meet manager, praised the organizing committee and educators for ensuring a safe event with no major injuries or incidents, despite challenging weather conditions that included heavy rain. Tunayau emphasized that the athletes demonstrated resilience and skill, showcasing their talent despite the elements.
Looking ahead, the victorious athletes are now gearing up for the national meet scheduled for later this month in Suva, where they aim to continue their success on a larger stage.
