The Minister for Public Works, Transport and Meteorological Services, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, has encouraged students to pursue careers in the maritime industry. Speaking at the World Maritime Day celebrations held at Albert Park in Suva, he highlighted the growing demand for skilled workers in this sector.

Ro Filipe pointed out that many qualified personnel are leaving Fiji for opportunities abroad, creating a need for more local students to enter the maritime workforce. He expressed gratitude to those students considering this career path, emphasizing that the shipping industry is facing challenges in finding qualified crew members.

He also underscored the significance of the annual celebration, which aims to honor the vital role of the maritime sector while promoting safety, innovation, and sustainable practices. This year’s theme, “Navigating the Future: Safety First,” reinforces the crucial importance of maritime safety as the industry moves towards a more secure and sustainable future.
