The Fiji Police Force has issued a warning to small boat operators to be cautious of weather conditions before heading out to sea. This advisory comes in the wake of an incident involving a fiberglass boat carrying two individuals that capsized due to large waves near the Navua passage.
Navua Police responded to a distress call and deployed officers on the FB Navua to carry out search and rescue operations. They successfully rescued the boat captain and a 17-year-old boy. After receiving medical treatment at Navua Hospital, both were reported to be safe.
Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations, Livai Driu, expressed relief that no fatalities occurred during the incident. He urged small boat operators to stay updated on weather reports and to make safety their top priority when navigating the waters.
