The Acting Minister for Home Affairs, Filimoni Vosarogo, has called for an investigation into disturbing allegations of abuse involving young students at Queen Victoria School. This report claims that older students are engaging in harmful behaviors, including stealing and assaulting their peers.
Mr. Vosarogo expressed his deep concern regarding the findings of the report, emphasizing the need for a thorough examination of the school’s environment. As a former student and currently a parent of a Form 7 student at the institution, he believes it is crucial to scrutinize the school’s culture. He strongly stated, “This matter cannot be ignored, as it would amount to neglecting our responsibilities as parents and as a government.”
The minister highlighted that the safety of students in boarding schools is a pressing issue that must be addressed promptly. He urged the Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, to devise a strategy aimed at enhancing the safety and well-being of students in boarding situations. Mr. Vosarogo also remarked that the problematic culture at Queen Victoria School must be dismantled for the protection of the over 800 students enrolled.
The call for action reflects a commitment to ensuring a safe and supportive educational environment, signaling potential positive changes for the school’s future.
This situation presents an important opportunity for improvement within the school system, advocating for better practices that promote a safe and nurturing environment for all students.
