The Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations, Agni Deo Singh, has acknowledged that the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) report for Nabua Primary School is still pending. A team conducted a site visit on November 4, with the report initially anticipated the following day. However, despite several follow-ups, the Ministry has yet to address the concerns raised.
Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro has also highlighted the troubling conditions at the school, where students face risks due to unfinished and poorly maintained facilities. He noted that the building, constructed under previous management, remains incomplete. “We are now collaborating with the new management to determine the most effective way to finalize the structure,” said Mr. Radrodro. He also encouraged the school to formally request Government assistance through the Ministry of Education if necessary.
The deteriorating infrastructure includes severe structural damage affecting many classrooms, such as rusted roofs and large gaps in windows where panes are missing. These issues not only jeopardize student safety but could also provide escape routes for pupils in case of emergencies.
The situation at Nabua Primary School directly affects over 900 students, shedding light on a larger dilemma concerning the decline of public education infrastructure in urban areas.
In light of these challenges, there is an opportunity for the government and local communities to come together to find sustainable solutions that can enhance the safety and quality of education for the students. By addressing these issues promptly, there is hope for positive change in the educational landscape, ensuring that future generations learn in safe and conducive environments.
